We operate an MPLS core network infrastructure which provides a robust and flexible infrastructure with the underlying technology to deliver a broad range of services to our customers. This is built around five main Points of Presence (POPs); Derby (Node4 DC1 & DC2), Leeds (Node4 DC3), Northampton (Node4 DC4), Manchester (Telecity) and London (Global Switch & Telehouse).
Additionally, we have three exchange POPs located in local BT exchanges at Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. From these locations we can provide Layer 2 and Layer 3 services between the POPs and out to customer locations using various access methods such as Leased Lines, DSL and Ethernet. We also interconnect to internet transit carriers and other technology partners to support additional services.
Connectivity between the POPs is provided by diversely routed 1Gbs and 10Gbs circuits. This results in a highly resilient network infrastructure which in the event of a core link failure, allows us to achieve sub-second failover for services delivered over MPLS.
We connect to multiple tier-1 internet transit providers at both London and Manchester which provides a high degree of resiliency. Additionally we connect to the London Internet Exchange (LINX) where we peer direct to many other services providers and large organisations which provides a direct path between our networks. Customers requiring Internet access from our data centres will use this network. It can also be used for customers to connect their sites to the internet, to connect to hosted services at our secure and conveniently located UK data centres or to connect multiple sites together.
